Boroujerdi heralds enhanced trade ties with Iraq

TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (MNA) – Head of Parliament NSFPC Alaeddin Boroujerdi while deeming Iran-Iraq’s ties ‘special’ promised further trade and economic cooperation with Iraq in coming months.

Head of Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remark in Baghdad on Sunday, following his meetings with a number of Iraqi officials and the two-day Baghdad Dialogue Conference on the future of Iraq after ISIL that wrapped up on Sunday.

During his stay, Boroujerdi held separate talks with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri, and Chairman of Iraqi National Coalition Ammar Hakim, where the two sides discussed various topics of mutual interest and stressed the expansion of relations between Tehran and Baghdad.

The Iranian senior official arrived in the Iraqi capital on Saturday to take part in Baghdad Dialogue Conference and to deliver a speech on the second day of the event. Boroujerdi noted that he conveyed viewpoints and stances of the Islamic Republic of Iran toward the future of Iraq after the complete eradication of ISIL terrorists from the Arab country.

Boroujerdi also extended the invitation of Iran’s Parliament Speaker to al-Jaafari, al-Jabouri, Hakim for participation at Palestine International Conference to be hosted by Iran in February. 

Boroujerdi is slated to meet with Iraqi President Fuad Masum and Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Monday.
